I believe a discussion on bodily health is an important subject. Many of our problems can be partially solved with a healthy lifestyle.
Drugs : Many drugs are abused, “According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) National Survey on Drug Use and Health,123.5 million persons aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse problem in 2009 (9.3 percent of persons aged 12 or older).” (DrugAbuse.gov)
Although ultimately my theory to life revolves around making decisions and living life however you want; this does lead to bad decision making. Certain drugs are stigmatized by society because of their counter-productive effect on the human body, but not necessarily society; theories of deviance would further explain this.
Imagine 10,000 years ago, in a time where the largest group of people together would range between 500-1000 in a very large village. Many people would even stay with just their families, and you went out gathering for food with some family. You come across a small patch of fungi growing on a hill. You decide to taste it, and discover its hallucinogenic effects. Suddenly, your vision blurs. You can’t understand what your fellow gathers are trying to say. Your brain decides the best thing to do is run away; maybe you can find sanctity somewhere else. You begin running, into the forest. The environment is constantly changing before your eyes, colors and shapes morph. You hear noises that are unfamiliar to you. You hear people behind you, screaming. It scares you, what do they want, your mind plays a trick on you. You imagine the deer you’ve been hunting; suddenly you’re sure that you are a young buck being hunted. The hunters are close behind chasing you with their spears and knives. You have to escape. You trip and open a gash in your knee. You bleed and squirm. You decide to lay there and accept your fate. You pass out. You awake in the night, clear headed, but in serious pain. Blood covers the ground; you wrap your knee in a makeshift tourniquet. You attempt to find your way home, but nothing is familiar. After a long look at your situation, you subconsciously make the decision that the fungi you’ve devoured had no beneficial effects on your health. You find your way home, your clansmen help you, and you tell them the story. As a group you decide to warn every one of said fungi.
This would happen many times, the word would spread fast. Some individuals would begin taking these substances for the journey, some religions would suggest using them to have enlightening journeys, and some would find joy in escaping their shitty lives. This is where the pros vs cons come in. although entirely situational, drugs like shrooms have little pros. They give us the chance to escape our problems, but this is also a con. How could we solve a problem we forget exists? Some problems snowball, become bigger, worse. We attempt to escape them again, fall deeper into the hole we dug. We’re losing money, this shit isn’t free. We haven’t gotten anything worthwhile done in a while. There’s no time, we have to work to pay for our addiction. You can’t stop now.
We force ourselves to believe this, all it is, is a clever excuse constructed by our subconscious to satisfy its need for a high, just us giving up. Some may argue that a casual once in a while lifestyle leads to fun, maybe true. But they’re not for everyone. Body damage can occur; alcohol is a leading cause of car accidents and deaths. Cigarette’s are the leading cause of lung cancer. The cliché “Don’t do Drugs” exists for a reason, Yes having fun and taking a break from life sound nice, but you’re only delaying your issues.
Supplements: Supplements can be important, if you’re like me or most Americans, chances are there’s no way in hell you can get all the vitamins, minerals, and others from the food you eat. Go to the store, buy a multivitamin, and take for the rest of your life. Multivitamins contain quite a few different vitamins that your body can use regularly. Specifically for men, or women looking to grow body hair, taking testosterone enhancers can lead to increased confidence, muscle growth, and a deeper sexier voice. Supplements I recommend with testosterone include Tribulus Terrestis, horny goat weed, and nuts. For those trying to build muscle, try: Whey protein after workouts, creatine throughout the day with lots of water and lots of fruits, zinc, and magnesium. For those looking for brain supplements I recommend eating lots of eggs and taking nootropics such as racetams.
Workouts: this section is going to be the simplest. First understand from a primal state what humans are meant to do. We used to run through fields chasing our prey, hop over rocks, climb trees, swim upstream, and swing from vines. This made us strong, lean, and fit. Our bodies need this to be healthy. Simulate said things, workout hard. If you aren’t tired at the end, you didn’t work out enough. Our bodies are very efficient, after doing something so long, they find the easiest way to do it, meaning that you’ll use the least energy doing it and build the least muscle. Never do the same workout exact for more than 2 weeks. Be very random with your workouts, confuse your muscles. Look this up online if you are confused.
Conclusion to 5/19/13: I felt a little spiel on health would be important, I’m going to go workout now.
